Project management tools have evolved significantly over the years, and Microsoft’s Planner Premium, formerly known as Project for the web, represents the latest Microsoft addition fully build with cloud computing and collaboration in mind.

In this article, which is also a teaser for the upcoming live event, we introduce reporting capabilities with Planner Premium, Dataverse and Power BI.

Introduction to Planner Premium

Planner Premium is a robust scheduling management tool designed to streamline project planning, tracking, and collaboration. It integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft 365 applications, making it a versatile solution for teams of any size. With Planner Premium, teams can create and manage tasks, assign resources, set a baseline, and track progress with ease.

Understanding Dataverse

Dataverse, formerly known as Common Data Service (CDS), is a powerful data platform that allows users to store and manage data securely. It provides a unified and scalable data storage solution, making it easier to connect data across various applications. With Dataverse, Planner Premium users can harness the full potential of their project data, enabling more effective analysis and reporting.

Microsoft has released a Project Accelerator Model driven Power App that helps you track ideas and programs as well as individual projects. And for even more advanced options third party solutions (such as the Projectum Power PPM) can be bought.

Key Features of Dataverse

  • Data Integration: Dataverse integrates seamlessly with Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and other third-party applications, ensuring that data from different sources can be consolidated and analyzed in one place.
  • Security and Compliance: Dataverse offers robust security features, including role-based access control and data encryption, ensuring that sensitive project data remains protected.
  • Scalability: Dataverse can handle large volumes of data, making it suitable for organizations of all sizes.

And Finally: Power BI

Power BI is Microsoft’s business analytics service that provides interactive visualizations and business intelligence capabilities. By integrating Power BI with Planner Premium and Dataverse, users can create comprehensive reports and dashboards that offer deep insights into project performance.

Power BI offers a wide range of visualization options, including charts, graphs, and maps, making it easier to interpret and communicate complex data. Furthermore, Power BI reports are interactive, allowing users to drill down into specific data points and explore trends and patterns.

Come to the Live Event

Join me on Wednesday, October 9, at 12:00 pm ET if you are curious about how to combine these 3 applications to build powerful reports. In the webinar I’ll showcase the different tools, and I will share how easy it is to build enterprise grade reporting on top of your scheduling data.
