Microsoft’s decision to retire Project Online forced us to confront a question many organizations are now facing: what comes next? In this MPUG webinar, Eric Christoph will explain how that decision directly drove us to build a replacement, ProjectXL, initially as a practical answer to the need for a credible desktop scheduling solution. But as the work progressed, it became clear that simply replicating the old model was not enough.
What began as a replacement for Microsoft Project and Project Online has evolved into something much broader: a true desktop project-controls environment that brings together scheduling, cost planning, finance, historical analysis, BI readiness, guided user workflows, and context-aware AI assistance. This session will walk through that progression, why the traditional scheduling-only approach leaves too much outside the system, and what it looks like to build a platform designed to support a more complete and governable view of project execution.
The webinar is intended for project managers, PMO leaders, and project-controls practitioners who are evaluating life after Project Online and want to think beyond a one-for-one replacement. It is a practical look at how one forced transition became the catalyst for building something far more capable.
