Resource entry is killing me

Okay, I have completely redone active directory so I can choose my resources from groups. So now that I have done that when I attempt to add resources all I see is a list of 175 users in no groups. I have tried to filter it down to the groups that I created but it just shows me the typical active directory search box. I could have sworn that I was able to add resources from groups. As an example all electricians, or electrical superintendence. I am using project professional 2013 and project server as an enterprise platform. Is it not possible to choose resources for project based on groups in an enterprise setting?
