Relation between Project life cycle and PMBook

Hi all,

This question has been in my mind since I started my professional journey. All concepts, tools and techniques acquired in a Project Management diploma were internalised at the time of my studies but when it comes to applying the knowledge in the work environment, is a different history.

What areas of the PMBoK are affected by the Project Management Life cycle the most and how do we ensure alignment between the life cycle of the project and the implementation of PMBoK in projects?
