PMI has recently announced they will be updating the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) exam on March 26, 2018 to correspond with terminology in the Agile Practice Guide, which was released in of September 2017. The PMP is evolving, too. On the same date, PMI will release their updated version of the Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) exam.
The current exam content outlines, based on the most recent role delineation study from 2014, will still be relevant. However, whenever a new PMI publication that is a reference for the certification exam — such as the Agile Practice Guide — is released or updated, certification examinations undergo an update, too. PMI does this to ensure the exam questions align with the new or updated terminology.
After the release of the new PMI-ACP and PMI-PMP exams in March, the Agile Practice Guide will be added to the list of reference materials for the exam.
Did you know that active practitioners from around the world author PMI-ACP and PMP exam questions, as well as content in the PMBOK® Guide, to ensure the content remains relevant and reflects current practices?
Some of the updates you can expect to see surround lexicon changes, terms used within the exam, as well as harmonization of process groups, tools, and techniques. As stated above, the PMP exam content outline will not change.
If you’re utilizing the PMBOK Guide® as a study tool for the PMP, expect several updates to the guide, also. There is a new chapter covering the role of the project manager with a focus on leading projects effectively – competencies, experience, and other necessary skills. Two Knowledge Areas have been renamed: Time Management is now Schedule Management and Human Resource Management is now Resource Management. This more correctly reflects which elements can be managed… and which cannot.
