We recently got this message from MPUG member, Varun Gupta:
I was hired to work for a residential and commercial real estate development company recently. On my first day of employment, I was handed a MS Project schedule which contained over 30,000 activities and was resource loaded with 2,100 resources. The schedule had been prepared by an accountant, and they wanted someone with a project management background to turn things around. I struggled and struggled and contacted many well-known industry professionals but wasn’t able to find success. Ultimately, I was fired from the job!
How frustrating and disappointing for this project manager and all involved, it sounds like. The obvious take away is: don’t hire an accountant to create a project schedule! Eek!
